tassili n'ajjer algeria sahara desert prehistoric rock art

It is a large plateau in the Algerian section of Sahara Desert. It all consist of mountains, sand and Rivers. Plateau means a Plain area or land. Everyone must be aware of the Sahara Desert. It is one of the hottest and the third largest Desert around globe and widely spread over around 12 countries. It covers most of the North African part and spread over around 9,450,000 square kilometers. Its size is larger than many European countries.

Tassili n'ajjer means Land of many Rivers. It is all famous for Prehistoric Rock Art. Around 6,000 years ago, Sahara was all green and fertile. Local people used to herded their cows. Numerous paintings over the wall/ prehistoric cave art give us a glimpse that how life changed here over the centuries. On a rock, you can see a painting made around 6,000 years ago of a God like structure. People used to say that is an oldest painting in the area and and his biceps and Horns are the symbol of Power & Strength.
There are many other paintings of people dancing, riding boats, swimming in the river. Some paintings show people tending large herds of cows. Paintings later 2,000 years ago show people herding camels rather than cows which indicate Sahara was beginning to dry up after having been a place of Greenland.
